Sonny Rollins is without doubt the greatest living saxophonist and has just
entered the 6th decade in his illustrious career.
He has had a long, productive career in jazz, beginning at the age of 11 and
playing with piano legend Thelonious Monk before reaching the age of 20.
Rollins is still touring and recording today, having outlived several of his
jazz contemporaries such as John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and Art Blakey, all performers with whom he has recorded.
We feature key recordings from the early 50s when he was starting to make a
name for himself and working with all of the above aswell as the likes of
Kenny Clarke, Art Blakey and Donald Byrd. These recordings would propel
Rollins to legendary status.
